California Sexual Harassment Training Law
California state law requires employers with at least five employees to provide sexual harassment training every two years to all employees.
Since 2005, California law AB 1825 has required employers with 50 or more employees to provide sexual harassment training to supervisors. Senate Bill 1343, which was signed into law on September 30, 2018, expanded the requirement to require employers with at least five employees to train all California employees.
SB 1343 also provides guidance on the content and length of the training that must be provided. In addition to AB 1825 and SB 1343, other California laws also require specific content to be included in harassment training courses.

California Training Law FAQ
California employers with five or more employees must provide employees with sexual harassment training.
All employees must receive training, including short-term employees, part-time employees, and interns.
California legislation requires that employers provide sexual harassment training to new employees within 6 months of being hired.
Employees working less than 6 months, such as temporary or seasonal employees, must also be trained within 100 hours or 30 days of being hired, whichever comes first.
We recommend facilitating sexual harassment training as a part of your employee onboarding/orientation program to help reduce risk and liability immediately.
The first training deadline is January 2020. After the deadline, training is required every two years.
Sexual Harassment training for California employees is required to be provided at least every two years.
Because employers are responsible for ensuring that the training received is compliant with the legislation, it’s recommended that employers train all new employees, even if the employee received training at a previous employer.
However, if the employee can provide evidence that training has been received, and that training meets the legislative requirements, retraining does not need to be provided until the retraining interval.
Employers must keep documentation of the training provided to employees and supervisors for at least two years.
