Summarizing Your Content

By providing a brief recap or summary at the end of a lesson or topic, learners can be reminded of the key points that were covered. You can even create a handout to share with participants at the end of the class that identifies the key concepts from the course.

The goal is for them to remember what you reviewed in the class and be able to apply the knowledge in the workplace. Learners benefit from a reminder as the more times something is repeated, the more likely it is to become a habit.

Here is an example of a good summary and closing statement for a training session:

“Thank you for your attention today. We have concluded the last lesson on dangers in the workplace. During this class, we talked about how important it is to take safety precautions by using proper eye protection, gloves, and protective clothing. We reviewed the changes in compliance practices and how this impacts your daily workflow. “

You may go into further detail about the safety precautions, but the main point here is to relate the key concepts together during the summary. Use a few sentences to link back to your opening statement and help learners prepare for the application of the content.
