Classroom Introductions

Classroom IntroductionAs a trainer, why do you need a great introduction?

It reinforces why you’re here. An introduction delivers a message of the value you’ll provide during the class and gives learners a glimpse of your personality.

The first thing you should do when starting off a training session is to welcome the participants. If you’re facilitating an in-person session, be sure to shake hands and make eye contact as individuals enter the room.

Your introduction needs to be relevant and exciting as this is your chance to capture the audience. Not only will you be taking the opportunity to make a good impression, but the audience will be provided with the assurance of what ground you are covering. Provide a summary of your credentials and a quick explanation of the course objectives.

Avoid spending more than 10-15 minutes going through introductions and ground rules. General housekeeping guidelines can be quickly reviewed and even posted on the wall or whiteboard for participants to follow. These are simple rules such as getting up for a bathroom break or keeping your cell phone on silent.
